The Joule-Tompson unit is designed to take advantage of the JT-effect of a pressure drop to remove hydrates from a gas stream.JT units are best placed after a Dehydration unit to remove as much water from the process stream as possible to prevent solid formation in the JT unit.Joule-Tompson units are also known as JT units, JT skids, Pressure drop units.The JT unit is placed prior to a pipeline or even more so upstream of a Cryogenic unit as a pre-cooler and treatment unit. There are also smaller sizes that are utilized to clean up fuel gas for compression.
