A Heated separator is a separator with a heating element added to the design. The biggest question that is commonly asked is what is the difference between a Heated separator and a Heater Treater? The answer is the pressure rating, the retention time, and the water content in the oil are much different between the two designs. One is still purposed for separation and the other is purposed for emulsion reduction. A Heated separator is typically after a Sand Separator and/or a line heater, and provides just enough heat in this stage to separator oil, water and gas. It can be used for Bulk separation and Testing as well. Heated Separators are usually called Heated Separators. The benefit of a Heated Separator is dependent on the situation. It can help maintain a parrafin pourpoint through your facility, it can be just enough heat needed so that you do not have to purchase a line heater, or it is best know for keeping heavy oil fluid and flowing. Heated Separators are more of a Cold Weather type unit.
